Small Steps Toward a Registered Flock

Our flock didn’t start with registered sheep. It started with crossbred sheep and a dream.

When we first began, we chose crossbred sheep because they were affordable and the best start for us. Those first sheep taught us so much about caring for sheep, raising lambs, and what it really means to be a shepherd.

As we learned more and our flock grew, we began dreaming of something more focused. We wanted to build a flock of registered Gotland sheep and carefully choose our breeding animals based on their pedigrees, conformation, wool, and overall quality.

That led us to our first registered Gotlands. Bringing them into our flock was an exciting step and opened a whole new chapter for us.

Now, we are slowly working toward having a flock made up primarily of registered sheep. We aren't changing everything overnight. Instead, we're taking small, thoughtful steps—keeping the best registered animals for our future breeding program and making decisions that will help strengthen our flock over time.

Our journey from crossbred sheep to registered Gotlands has taught us that a flock doesn't have to start out perfect. It can grow, change, and improve with patience, hard work, and a willingness to learn.

One small step at a time.
